Redefining Jobsite Safety
The Boldt Company
Situation
Suicide is the leading cause of construction fatalities and suicide rates in the construction industry are four times higher than the national average. In response to these alarming statistics, The Boldt Company implemented a suicide awareness and prevention program in 2021 using peer-to-peer “gatekeepers” to provide help and referrals for co-workers. Today, approximately 132 trained gatekeepers are at Boldt jobsites and offices nationwide.
Opportunity
Boldt leads with purpose in order to build a better world for their employees, customers and communities. They focus beyond physical safety at their jobsites and understand that mental health and wellbeing needs to be an industry-wide conversation.
Boldt wanted to continue raising awareness of their gatekeeper program, help break the stigma around mental health and share their efforts with other organizations and community members in hopes that others may look to start their own prevention program.
Approach
Kane conducted proactive media relations and interview/story coordination with local outlets during Mental Health Awareness Month and Suicide Prevention Week to highlight Boldt’s efforts in implementing their peer-to-peer suicide prevention program.
Through community relations efforts, Kane also researched potential panel discussion and speaking opportunities for Boldt to highlight their current success of their program and share why other organizations should look to implement a similar program of their own.
